For nourishing the fetus during pregnancy, bai zhu san governs. For toxic pain under the heart, double chuan xiong.
This formula nourishes the fetus by tonifying the spleen and warming the interior. It is a yang formula in that it warms blood but indirectly.
Chuan xiong, Ligustici radix is pungent dispersing of the liver and pericardium blood and the ministerial fire in the san jiao. It is warm pungent and it moves liver qi contained in blood and restores the normal flow of blood by mildly eliminating stasis.
Shu Jiao, Pericarpum zanthoxyli bungeani is pungent dispersing of the liver and pericardium blood and the ministerial fire in the san jiao. It is pungent dispersing of the heart and kidneys.
Shu jiao directly warms the Fire element. It works with gan jiang in warming cold that is causing cramping.
Bai zhu, Atractylodis macrocephalae rhizome is sweet tonifying of the stomach domain and spleen. Bai zhu is bitter draining of excess fluids in the stomach domain, spleen, lungs and bladder.
It is warm bitter and dries damp in earth to restore the tai yin function of sending the pure qi up to heart to create blood and of moving fluids to move blood. Used for fetal unrest but it also ensures a smooth transformation of the muli.
Mu li, Ostrea concha is salty softening of hardness in the abdomen and stomach domain. It is astringing of fluids into the kidney and stomach organs.
