Sub costal pain on the sides, with fever, and a tight and wiry pulse, is cold, for it should be purged with warm herbs, and da huang fu zi tang is indicated.
It treats cold induced constipation. It warms the yang ming and tai yin and opens the yang ming.
Da huang, Rhei rhizoma is bitter draining of excess heat and dry stool in the stomach domain.
Fu zi, Aconiti radix lateralis praeparata is pungent dispersing of liver blood and the ministerial fire in the san jiao. It is pungent dispersing of the heart and kidneys. It is pungent dispersing of the tai yang channels. It is pungent dispersing of excess water.
Fu zi frees yang qi and warms and disperses cold and breaks through yin allowing the warming of the kidneys to govern defecation. If used with da huang then the cooling nature of da huang is lost but retains its purging nature.
Xi xin, Asari herba is pungent dispersing of the liver blood and the ministerial fire. It is pungent dispersing of the heart, kidneys and lungs. It is pungent dispersing of the tai yang channel.
Xi xin warms the interior and the stomach domain to descend excess.
