When in drag over disease of the two yang, the tai yang disease has ceased and there is only tidal heat effusion, sweat streaming from the extremities, difficult defecation and delirious speech, precipitation will bring about recovery and therefore da cheng qi tang governs.
In convulsion disease, there is chest fullness and mouth clenching, and lying down without touching the mattress, and convulsing urgency of the feet, then teeth must grind, one can give da cheng qi tang.
In abdominal fullness that does not decrease, or decreases not worth mentioning, one should continue to purge, and da cheng qi tang is indicated.

Hou po, Magnoliae cortex is bitter descending of the stomach domain, chest and lungs. It is pungent dispersing of dampness.
Hou po opens the middle and promotes the downward qi flow of the yang ming Metal mandate.
Da huang, Rhei rhizoma is bitter draining of excess heat and dry stool in the stomach domain.
Da huang descends yang ming and frees Earth and Metal from Fire by opening and descending the intestines and clearing pathogens.
Mang xiao, Natrii sulfas is salty softening of hardness in the stomach domain. Mang xiao is bitter draining of stool and heat in the stomach domain.
Mang xiao is salty and cold and clears heat and purges excess while moistening dryness and softening hardness. Mang xiao and da huang form a fierce team to purge yang ming fu organ fullness due to excessive heat and internal dryness.
Zhi shi, Aurantii fructus immaturus is bitter draining and descending of the stomach domain. It is bitter draining of the liver, gall bladder and san jiao.
The addition of zhi shi makes this not only a yang ming pattern but also shao yang.
